Earthworks has a regular presence at the lively monthly St. Albans Farmers Market in the town centre. Markets are held on the second Sunday of each month from 8am – 2pm.
At the different market stalls you can find local specialties, cheeses, seasonal fruit and vegetables, fresh herbs, high quality meat and game, dairy produce, freshly baked cakes & bread and hand crafted goods.
Earthworks sells a range of produce: seasonal fruit and vegetables grown using organic principles – apples, leeks, artichokes, butternut squash, tomatoes, carrots (when the rabbits haven’t eaten them!), cucumbers, lettuce etc. – and herbs. A range of veg, herbs and ornamental plants are usually available. You can buy craft items such as bird and bug boxes, bird tables (available to order), beautiful decorations made from willow and dogwood, plant supports and walking sticks. Popular purchases are our logs and compost which we can deliver for you.
Our stall is manned by volunteers (who struggle out of bed early on a Sunday once a month to set up!) and by trainees, who gain valuable work experience and contact with the general public. They also seem to enjoy the process thoroughly, even if it gets a little cold in February! Both volunteers and trainees are always willing to talk to visitors to the market and to answer questions and there are leaflets available, with information about Earthworks’ activities and hints on composting, recycling etc.
