Job opportunities

New jobs become available at Earthworks from time to time. Please revisit.

Placements

Every year Earthworks offers at least one paid placement to a student, often to University of Hertfordshire students, but those from other institutions are welcome to apply. If you would be interested in spending your placement year with us or are interested in a shorter unpaid placement, please contact us. Placement students participate fully in all aspects of Earthworks and usually tell us that it has been the best experience of their lives!

Volunteers are always welcome at Earthworks. Contact us to discuss how you could help and what we can offer you.

Trainees

Earthworks offers work experience and training in a unique atmosphere in gardening, horticulture, conservation work, construction , woodwork and crafts.

The work we do is very varied and changes with the season. In the summer months we are busy looking after the gardens and growing vegetables and plants for sale on the farmers, market. In the winter we focus on conservation work, woodwork and crafts.

Everybody gets a chance to try different tasks and the emphasis is on creating a culture of success. We facilitate independence and encourage trainees' own initiative.

We offer formal training in the National Proficiency Test Certificates in Skills for Working Life (level 2 and 3) in horticulture, conservation work and woodwork.

Earthworks organises regular events throughout the year like Litter Picks, Halloween bonfires and summer fairs. All trainees and volunteers are invited to attend and participate in these events.

Earthworks trainees and volunteers get a free newsletter 4 times a year. The newsletter keeps you up to date on the news at Earthworks and events.

Earthworks trainees and volunteers meet monthly in a Project Group to discuss the running of Earthworks. We talk about news at Earthworks, the work to do, the work we have done and any ideas to we have to change or improve at Earthworks.

Trainees and volunteers are represented in our Management Committee by an elected trainee and volunteer through the Project Group.

Trainees and volunteers can help on stalls and the Farmers' Market to sell our produce, plants and crafts. Earthworks also runs various other stalls at other events.

Earthworks offers the opportunity to go out into the community with our contract group to design, construct and maintain gardens.

At Earthworks we have a high ratio of staff to trainees and volunteers to support people.

Twice a year we meet to see how you are getting on with goals related to your work. Goals can be agreed and are about the things you want to achieve such as making a birdbox or learning to use the lawnmower.
